Some fashion weeks stay on the catwalk, whilst others take to the streets, hop on their bikes and show you what you’ll be wearing in three months’ time without anyone telling you quite so directly. Copenhagen is one of the latter. What interests me most about this week is what the editors and stylists are wearing as they leave the show, bathed in that Nordic light that makes even the simplest outfit look carefully thought out.
I’ve been observing for years that Scandinavian style has something no other style has: it knows how to use colour without being garish, it knows how to combine garments without it looking forced and, above all, it knows how to interpret a trend without the person wearing it losing their personality. There’s no formula, just attitude. And this season has given me five very clear ideas of where things are heading.
TURQUOISE: THE MOST UNEXPECTED SURPRISE
After several seasons of red and butter yellow, this colour has taken me by surprise… and won me over. I’ve seen it in flowing dresses, two-piece outfits and even in a simple accessory that transformed the whole look. My way of wearing it: always against a neutral background, so that the turquoise doesn’t have to compete with anything.
FRINGES – MY FAVOURITE TREND THIS SEASON
If I had to pick just one trend from all the ones I’ve seen, it would be this one. No festival-style fringes here — I’m talking about sophisticated versions, lightweight fabrics and minimalist finishes that take the look to a whole new level. A leather pencil skirt with fringes at the hem is one of the sexiest things I’ve seen this season, and a fringed leather bag or jacket gives you that ‘cowgirl’ vibe that’s been awakened in all of us a little bit after watching the series *Ransom Canyon*.
SCARVES THAT NEVER LEAVE MY WARDROBE
Headpieces and knotted scarves are back in the spotlight, and this is one of the few trends I’d already made my own before it became a thing. I never part with mine — I always carry one by Nunet, because there’s no more versatile accessory: around the waist, around the neck, or even to decorate a handbag. It instantly adds personality to any look, however basic it may be.
MILITARY PRINT: I’M NOT QUITE CONVINCED, BUT I UNDERSTAND WHY IT’S TRENDING
I’ll be honest here: it’s not really my cup of tea. But if your style leans more towards urban or rock, it’ll suit you down to the ground this season when paired with a leather pencil skirt – another trend that’s really taking off. And if you prefer something more understated, a pair of jeans and a basic white T-shirt will tone it down effortlessly.
SHEER LOOKS THAT ARE NO LONGER RESERVED FOR THE EVENING
Every season I see them becoming more integrated into everyday wear, and this one is no exception. Layered over basics, with a hint of lingerie peeking through, or mixed with more structured fabrics — the trick, as is almost always the case, is not to overdo it. A single sheer detail is enough to make the look work.
